  2. Jerusalem historian and qadi. Ayub al-Yumn 'Abd a-Rahman
  3. ben Muhammad Mujir a-Din al-'Omar al-Hanbali al-Maqdisi,
  4. known simply as Mujir a-Din, was an Arab historian of the
  5. 14th century who lived during the Mameluke period. Born in
  6. Jerusalem, Mujir a-Din studied in Cairo, but returned to Je-
  7. rusalem to serve as chief qadi, or chief justice, from 1486-
  8. 1516. The most celebrated of Mujir a-Din's writings "The
  9. Wonderful Guide to the History of Jerusalem and Hebron",
  10. is an invaluable work of documentation of this period of Je-
  11. rusalem history. Mujir a-Din's grave in the city can be visited
  12. today.
